Big Weekend For The Lowland League

It’s a big weekend for Lowland League football with 2nd and 3rd placed teams going head to head and East Kilbride looking to hold onto their slender lead at the top of the table.
The winners of the unofficial ‘ League 3 ‘ of Scottish football will play off against the Highland League Champions at the end of the season for the right to play the bottom club in League 2 over two legs in a winner takes an SPFL place match up which has proved popular over the last two seasons.
Cowdenbeath prevailed against EK after penalties last season but the previous season Edinburgh City beat East Stirlingshire on aggregate to replace the Ochilview based side in the fouth tier of Scottish League football.
With some Lowland League matches letting kids in for free or for free with an accompanied adult and most adult admission prices just a fiver and £7 maximum the Lowland League is fast gaining a reputation for providing some of the most value for money football in Scotland.
Current league leaders East Kilbride have knocked SPFL side Cowdenbeath out of the Scottish Cup two seasons running while Edinburgh based Spartans were originally formed as a team for former Edinburgh University students. BSC Glasgow FC are an off-shoot from Glasgow’s Broomhill Sports Club while East Stirlingshire are looking to regain their league status. Cumbernauld Colts currently share Broadwood Stadium with Clyde FC. Former East of Scotland League team Gala Fairydean Rovers and Edusport Academy, a residential football academy based in Glasgow and Paris, are amongst the other teams providing an interesting mix in the Lowland League
