FOUR second-half tries saw Millom overhaul a 18-14 deficit at the interval to win 36-18 and book their place in the second round of the Challenge Cup at the expense of Angus based Strathmore Silverbacks.

The hosts had gone ahead at Devonshire Road in the fourth minute, but two converted tries from lively interchange man Craig Lawson helped the Scottish champions establish a four-point advantage at half time.

But having gone back ahead soon after play resumed, Millom wrested control back on the hour when a superb counter-attack was finished by Scott Fisher just moments after Strathmore had a try disallowed and a yellow card had temporarily reduced the home side, nicknamed the Woolybacks, to 12 men.

Strathmore Silverbacks hopes of progression in the premier English Rugby League tournament, with the final at Wembley, ended in Cumbria at the hands of the oldest amateur Rugby League club in the world [ formed 1873 ]

The big guns of English Rugby League enter the Challenge Cup at Round 3.
