Clan Ready For Blaze Battle

Written by on March 19, 2018

Glasgow’s Braehead Clan will go into the final regular season weekend in a head-to-head battle with Coventry Blaze for the last play-off spot after completing a four-point weekend in Edinburgh.
Clan’s 6-1 win over the Capitals keeps them in eighth place, but with Blaze winning on the road in Guildford and Dundee Stars, the other team in the fight, losing to Fife Flyers, it now comes down to two.
It should be noted while the Stars are six points behind with three games to go, regulation wins would still see Braehead finish ahead of them, irrespective of what Coventry do in their final matches.
John Tripp’s men took care of business themselves as they made it eight league wins out of eight over the bottom of the table club to follow up on Saturday’s home win over MK Lightning.
Craig Peacock, who scored the winner on Saturday, continued that goalscoring form with the opener at Murrayfield when he tucked away the rebound from Jacob Doty’s initial effort.
Doty turned from provider to scorer with Clan’s second when he took advantage of an error and duly punished the Capitals to go 2-0 up after the first period.
Edinburgh got one back in the second period when Ainars Podzins pulled one back when he finished off a chance in close proximity to Braehead goalie Ryan Nie.
However Ville Hämäläinen’s shot on the turn left Caps netminder McLaughlin beaten and the visitors restored their two-goal lead by the conclusion of the second period.
With only two goals in it, Edinburgh still had a chance, but Adam Brace’s finish within a minute of the restart effectively killed them off.
Brendan Brooks added a fifth from Michal Gutwald’a assist to make things more comfortable before Brace’s second put the lid on the night after he converted Doty’s pass from the right.
