Meeting Called As Blue Brazil Slip Further Towards Trap Door
Written by RockSport on February 24, 2018
A meeting between the Cowdenbeath FC board and supporters has been arranged for March 8th as the self styled Blue Brazil slip further to a place in the Lowland League next season following the weekend’s results.
The Fife club are now 12 points adrift at the bottom of League 2 and face a second play off in the space of 12 months against the winners of the Highland or Lowland League if they hope to keep their SPFL place.
The east of Scotland based team have been part of the Scottish League since 1905, and were formed in 1881, but are now close to joining former fourth tier team East Stirlingshire in the Lowland League following a string of bad results this campaign which has resulted in just a single League 2 victory.
Last season only a 5-4 penalty shoot-out win saw them past Lowland League Champions East Kilbride in a Play-Off that ended all square after matches at K Park and in the Kingdom.
The ‘beath were a Championship side just three years ago but now face the prospect of derbies against nearby village team Kelty Hearts, who are odds on to win the East of Scotland League this season, thus progressing to the Lowland League as a promoted club in the Scottish pyramid system.
While Cowden lost to Peterhead on Saturday at Central Park former Junior side Kelty thumped Peebles 12-1 just three miles away at their Fife home ground ironically named New Central Park.
Many of the community based in central Fife have expressed concern about the very survival of Cowdenbeath FC should they topple into unknown territory in the Lowland League in May.
