Scotland Legend '' Strachan was doing a good job '' – Rock Sport

Jim McCalliog scored for Scotland when they beat 1966 World Champions England 3-2 at Wembley in April 1967, the first defeat for the Three Lions after their final win over West Germany.

The ex-Chelsea, Sheffield Wednesday, Wolves and Southampton player, still sprightly in his 70’s, told Rock Sport Radio’s Alex Horsburgh that he felt Gordon Strachan was doing a ” good job ” for the national team before the former Celtic boss stepped down from his post with the SFA following two failed qualification campaigns.

Strachan revealed he was like ” a teenager with a broken heart ” following his departure from the international managerial job and went on to state that the decision to leave Scotland was ” not by mutual consent ”

Anglo McCalliog said he admired Strachan’s efforts with Scotland and felt he the former Aberdeen player was taking the national team forward as head coach.

Jim Duffy, the Morton manager, told Rock Sport Radio there should be ” no hurry ” to find Strachan’s replacement with still a way to go before Scotland were involved in competitive qualifcation action again.

N.Ireland boss Michael O’Neil is still thought to be the SFA’s prefered candidate to replace Gordon Strachan.
