Aberdeen City Council is currently in talks with Highland League side and SPFL hopefuls Cove Rangers and the two are working in partnership to build a new football pitch at Calder Park in Nigg. In a report to the property sub-committee, it states: “Provisional agreement has been reached for the club to relocate to Calder Park and enter into a ground lease with the council.” The report adds that the Trustees of Cove Rangers Football Club will be responsible for the day to day operation of the facility with the council, in the form of the new proposed academy, having the right to use the stadium. Developer Scotia Homes has also submitted a proposal of application notice to build between 55 to 65 homes at Allan Park in Cove [ their current ground ]. The site is the current home to North-east football team Cove Rangers FC.”
Cove Rangers are almost over the finishing line as far as winning the Highland League goes and are set to play the winners of the Lowland League soon, which is likely to be East Kilbride, Spartans or BSC Glasgow. The winner of the pyramid semi final will play the bottom club in League Two over two legs to decide which team is the 42nd club in the SPFL next season.
Cove and East Kilbride clashed in the pyramid play off semi final last season before winners East Kilbride were beaten by Cowdenbeath on penalties in the final with the Fifers retaining their League Two status.
